Independent Living
At Daventry Hill School we work with students to enable them to have the ability to make informed decisions about their own life to support independence in school and outside it.
Living independently will look different for our students as they have a range of complexity of needs; some will have the ability to live on their own, with partners, have families of their own, while some will always need support to manage basic functions.
Our Independent Living curriculum focusses on a number of areas including, but not limited to:
- Personal hygiene,
- Dress and clothing care,
- Cooking, eating and nutrition,
- Daily living skills
- Home management and home safety,
- Financial management,
- Travel training,
- Rights and benefits
- Time management
- Future planning
The curriculum input is tailored to ensure that the education delivered is meaningful for the identified outcome for adulthood; this is particularly the case in Foundations for the Future, where the skills taught are taught to meet personalised independent living goals.
